Koblenz to Corbion Sur Semois 180 mile

The weather hadn’t improved overnight, and our motorcycling gear was still damp from the previous day’s ride. There’s nothing quite like starting the day with a wet and cold helmet in driving rain before setting off on a 180-mile journey to Ypres.

Hôtel des Ardennes is a fantastic stopover if you're traveling from the UK. Even more so, it’s the perfect spot for a final farewell blowout when returning from a long tour of Europe. With just a couple of hundred miles to the port, it’s manageable even if you have a longer journey ahead in the UK. On many occasions, I’ve made it back to Preston relatively easily, especially with a bit of rest on the ferry. These days, being retired, there’s no need to rush, which makes the journey all the more enjoyable.

This family owned hotel has been in the same hands for several generations. The current custodians were young adults honing their craft when we first discovered this gem some 20 years ago. While time has moved on and generations have changed, one thing has remained constant: the exceptional quality and dining experience that Hôtel des Ardennes delivers year after year.

Dinner was from the tasting menu. While my friend was eager to order bottles of wine for two, I opted for a more modest approach, a glass of white wine to accompany the first several courses, followed by a glass of red with the main. It was more than enough to complement a delightful meal.
