Itinerary
Australia, Singapore and Sri Lanka 18 November 2023 - January 9 2024.
My journey with the land down under began in my childhood days in the quaint town of Pudsey, West Yorkshire. It was there that my family's visitors from Sydney, participants in the iconic "Ten Pound Pom" scheme, sparked my imagination with vivid photographs of Australia's stunning landscapes and vibrant oceans.
As I embarked on my career, I knew that my eventual voyage to Australia would be more than just a holiday, it would be an immersive exploration. While most visitors spend a month to truly savour the Australian experience, I decided to save this adventure for my retirement days.
My dream itinerary would commence with a flight from Manchester, connecting in Doha, before landing in Adelaide 24 hours later, a gateway to the wonders of the Great Ocean Road. The 900km coastal drive to Melbourne would be dotted with stops at charming towns like Robe, Port Fairy, and Apollo Bay, each offering a glimpse of Australia's coastal beauty.
From Melbourne, I would fly to Hamilton Island, nestled in the breathtaking Whitsunday region, before continuing my journey to Sydney, Watsons Bay and Manly. The scenic route to Brisbane, covering 1050km, would be a road trip to remember, passing through iconic landmarks such as the Blue Mountains, the wine region of Hunter Valley, and surfers paradise of Byron Bay, culminating in a Christmas celebration in Brisbane.
After bidding farewell to Brisbane, I'd venture northward to Cairns, where the vibrant underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef awaits. A New Year's stay in Port Douglas would be the perfect way to welcome the new beginnings amidst tropical splendour.
From Cairns, my travels would take me back to Sydney, where I'd catch an afternoon flight to Singapore for a birthday celebration filled with culinary delights. The journey would continue to Sri Lanka, where I'd reunite with my uncle, a longtime resident, for enriching experiences and cherished family moments.
This lifelong dream journey is a testament to my passion for exploration, cultural food, and the boundless wonders of our world. I eagerly anticipate the day when I can embark on this unforgettable odyssey across the land and seas of Australia.
Researching and reviewing restaurants ahead of booking has become a standard practice for me before any trip. It is something I have done for many years. With meticulous attention to detail, I examined over 53 establishments, confident that the best ones are typically booked months in advance. By securing reservations early, I aim to avoid disappointment and ensure an unforgettable dining experience during my travels. This proactive approach not only ensures access to sought-after venues but also builds anticipation and excitement as the journey approaches.
