St Michaels on Wyre to Dover 330 miles

My ride to Dover was fairly uneventful, although the weather did take a turn for the worse as I passed through Cheshire, Birmingham, and Northamptonshire. By the time I reached Kent, I was more than ready for a break. I keep telling myself that I should split up the journey and stay somewhere south of Birmingham, but somehow, that never seems to happen!

The weather went from windy to downright wet by the time I arrived at the Premier Inn off the A20 near Dover, my stop for the night. I got there around 5:30 pm, not too bad considering I left just after 10 am. Dinner at the Beefeater wasn’t exactly thrilling. I think I had the enthusiasm of a dog going to the vet!

Calais to Amiens 95 mile

After a quick ferry crossing to Calais, it was just a couple of hours to reach our hotel in Amiens. It’s funny, Amiens isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot, but not much has changed since we were last there 20 years ago. The restaurant we once dined at has gone, but there are still plenty of bars to explore.

We had a reservation at Hyacinthe on Rue Dusevel, just a stone’s throw from the beautiful La Cathédrale Notre-Dame. While the location was perfect, I have to say the dinner was pretty average, and the service left a bit to be desired.
